In this work, Max/MSP is used in an effort to build a more expressive vocoder - one that whispers when the user whispers and screams when the user screams. With this prototype, the wet/dry signal on the overdrive and the release of the ADSR are controlled by the input of the mic. As the performer sings louder, the vocoder sound opens up and the overtones become harmonically denser.

I woke up the same today
The curtains drawn, the locks in place
A callous storm awoke me from my sleeping

A dream cut short by sleet and hail
The nagging deluge of the sky prevailed
Reminding me that when we last spoke you were weeping

But how can I live without you?

I've learned to make the ends all meet
I pay the bills with enough to eat
I may be alone but I'm surving

You told me I'd fall apart
Come crawling back or learn to starve
But I can be as resilient as you are conniving

But how can I live without you?
